Oh, What We Do NOT See

Elisha And God Almighty’s Army

2 Kings 6:12-17

And one of His (The King of Syria’s) Servants said, “None, My Lord, O King; but Elisha, The Prophet, who is in Israel, TELLS The King of Israel, The Words that YOU (The King of Syria) speak in Your (The King of Syria’s) Bedroom.”  So He (The King of Syria) said, “Go and see where He (Elisha) is, that I (The King of Syria) may send and get Him (Elisha).”  And it was told Him (The King of Syria), saying, “Surely He (Elisha) is in Dothan.”  Therefore He (The King of Syria) sent horses and chariots and a Great Army (The Syrian Army) there (Dothan), and they (The Syrian Army) came by night and surrounded the City (Dothan).  And when The Servant of The Man (Elisha) of God (God Almighty) arose early and went out, there was an Army (The Syrian Army), surrounding the City (Dothan) with horses and chariots.  And His (Elisha’s) Servant said to Him (Elisha), “Alas, My Master!  What shall We (Elisha and His Servant) do?”  So He (Elisha) answered, “Do NOT fear, for those (God Almighty’s Army) who are with Us (Elisha and His Servant) are more, than those who are with them (The Syrian Army).”  And Elisha prayed, and said, “LORD (God Almighty), I pray, OPEN His (Elisha’s Servant’s) Eyes, that He (Elisha’s Servant) may SEE.”  Then The LORD (God Almighty) OPENED The Eyes of the Young Man (Elisha’s Servant), and He (Elisha’s Servant) SAW.  And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire, all around Elisha.

Balaam, The Donkey, And The Angel Of God Almighty

Numbers 22:20-35

And God (God Almighty) came to Balaam at night and said to him (Baalam), “If the men come to call YOU (Balaam), rise and go with them; but ONLY The Word, which I (God Almighty) Speak to YOU (Balaam), that YOU (Balaam) shall do.”  So Balaam rose in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with The Princes of Moab.  Then God’s (God Almighty’s) Anger was AROUSED, because he (Balaam) went, and The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty) Took His Stand in the way, as an Adversary AGAINST him (Balaam).  And he (Balaam) was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.  Now the donkey SAW The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty), standing in the way with His Drawn Sword in His Hand, and the donkey turned aside out of the way and went into the field.  So Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back onto the road.  Then The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty) stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, with a wall on this side and a wall on that side.  And when the donkey SAW The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty), she (the donkey) pushed herself against the wall and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall; so he struck her again.  Then The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty) went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was NO WAY to turn, either to the right hand or to the left.  And when the donkey SAW The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty), she (the donkey) lay down under Balaam; so Balaam’s anger was AROUSED, and he (Balaam) struck the donkey with his staff.  Then The LORD (God Almighty) OPENED The Mouth of The Donkey, and she (The donkey) said to Balaam, “What have I (the donkey) done to YOU (Balaam), that YOU (Balaam) have struck me (the donkey) these three times?”  And Balaam said to the donkey, “Because YOU (the donkey) have abused me.  I (Balaam) wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I (Balaam) would kill YOU (the donkey)!”  So the donkey said to Balaam, “Am I NOT your donkey on which YOU (Balaam) have ridden, ever since I became yours, to This Day?  Was I (the donkey) EVER Disposed to do THIS to YOU (Balaam)?”  And he (Balaam) said, “No.”  Then The LORD (God Almighty) OPENED Balaam’s Eyes, and He (Balaam) SAW The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty) standing in the way, with His Drawn Sword in His Hand; and He (Balaam) bowed his head and fell flat on his face.  And The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty) said to him (Balaam), “Why have YOU (Balaam) struck your donkey these three times?  Behold, I (The Angel of The LORD God Almighty) have Come Out to Stand AGAINST YOU (Balaam), because Your Way is PERVERSE, Before Me (The Angel of The LORD God Almighty).  The donkey SAW Me (The Angel of The LORD God Almighty) and turned aside from Me (The Angel of The LORD God Almighty), these three times.  If she (the donkey) had NOT turned aside from Me (The Angel of The LORD God Almighty), surely I (The Angel of The LORD God Almighty) would also have KILLED YOU (Balaam) by now, and let her (the donkey) live.”  And Balaam said to The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty), “I (Balaam) have sinned, for I (Balaam) did NOT Know YOU (The Angel of The LORD God Almighty) stood in the way, AGAINST me (Balaam).  Now therefore, if it Displeases YOU (The Angel of The LORD God Almighty), I (Balaam) will turn back.”  Then The Angel of The LORD (God Almighty) said to Balaam, “Go with the men, but ONLY The Word, that I (The Angel of The LORD God Almighty) SPEAK to YOU (Balaam), that YOU (Balaam) shall speak.”

Fellow Believers, here are two examples of the things, We (Believers) can NOT see, unless God Almighty ALLOWS Us (Believers) To SEE Them.  First, Elisha’s Servant was unaware of God Almighty’s Army, standing all around Elisha, until God Almighty OPENED His Eyes.  Then Balaam was unaware of The Angel of The LORD, God Almighty, was standing in his (Balaam’s) way, and punished his donkey for trying to AVOID The Angel of The LORD, God Almighty.  First, God Almighty OPENED The Mouth of The Donkey, though this did NOT seem to surprise Balaam, then God Almighty OPENED Balaam’s Eyes, and He (Balaam) SAW The Angel of The LORD, God Almighty.  Balaam had no idea, how close He (Balaam) was to death, and IF His (Balaam’s) Donkey had NOT avoided The Angel of The LORD, God Almighty, things could have turned out quite different for Balaam.

Fellow Believers, it just goes to show YOU (Believers), that God Almighty is ALWAYS Watching YOU (Believers), and ALWAYS Watching Out, for YOU (Believers).  Amen.
