This is The Genealogy of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham begot Isaac. Isaac was Forty (40) Years Old when He (Isaac)
took Rebekah as Wife, The Daughter of Bethuel, The Syrian of Padan Aram, The Sister
of Laban, The Syrian. Now, Isaac PLEADED
with The LORD (GOD Almighty) for His (Isaac’s) Wife (Rebekah), because She
(Rebekah) was BARREN; and The
LORD (GOD Almighty) GRANTED His (Isaac’s) Plea, and Rebekah, His (Isaac’s) Wife
CONCEIVED. But The Children struggled
together within Her (Rebekah); and She (Rebekah) said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So, She (Rebekah) went to INQUIRE of The LORD
(GOD Almighty). And The LORD (GOD
Almighty) said to Her (Rebekah): “Two Nations are in Your (Rebekah’s) Womb, Two Peoples shall be SEPARATED
from Your (Rebekah’s) Body; One
People shall be STRONGER than The Other, and The Older shall SERVE The Younger.”
So, when Her (Rebekah’s) Days were FULFILLED
for Her (Rebekah) to Give Birth,
indeed there were TWINS in Her
(Rebekah’s) Womb. And The First Came Out
RED. He (Esau) was like a Hairy Garment all over; so They (Isaac and
Rebekah) called His Name, Esau.
Afterward His (Esau’s) Brother (Jacob) Came Out, and His (Jacob’s) Hand TOOK
HOLD of Esau’s Heel; so His Name was called Jacob. Isaac was
Sixty (60) Years Old when She (Rebekah) BORE Them (Esau and Jacob). So, The Boys (Esau and Jacob) GREW. And Esau was a Skillful Hunter, a Man of The Field;
but Jacob was a Mild Man, dwelling in tents.
And Isaac LOVED Esau, because He (Isaac) Ate of His (Esau’s) Game, but Rebekah LOVED Jacob.
Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau
came in from the field, and He (Esau) was
weary. And Esau said to Jacob, “Please
feed me (Esau) with that same red stew,
for I (Esau) am weary.” Therefore, His (Esau’s) Name was called,
Edom. But Jacob said, “SELL me (Jacob)
Your (Esau’s) Birthright as of THIS DAY.”
And Esau said, “Look, I (Esau) am
about to die; so what is This Birthright
to me (Esau)?” Then Jacob said, “SWEAR
to me (Jacob) as of THIS DAY.” So, He (Esau)
SWORE to Him (Jacob), and SOLD His (Esau’s) Birthright to Jacob. And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of
lentils; then He (Esau) ate and drank, arose, and went His (Esau’s) Way. Thus Esau DESPISED His (Esau’s) Birthright.
Now it came to pass, when Isaac was old and His
(Isaac’s) Eyes were so dim, that He (Isaac) could NOT see, that He (Isaac) called
Esau, His (Isaac’s) Older Son and said to Him (Esau), “My Son.” And He (Esau) answered Him (Isaac), “Here I
am.” Then He (Isaac) said, “Behold now,
I (Isaac) am old. I (Isaac) do NOT know
The Day of My (Isaac’s) Death. Now
therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to
the field and hunt game for me (Isaac). And
make me (Isaac) savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me (Isaac) that I may eat, that My (Isaac’s) Soul may Bless
YOU (Esau), before I (Isaac) die.”
Now, Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau,
His Son. And Esau went to the field to
hunt game and to bring it. So, Rebekah spoke to Jacob, Her Son, saying,
“Indeed I (Rebekah) heard Your Father (Isaac) speak to Esau, Your Brother,
saying, ‘Bring me (Isaac) game and make savory food for me (Isaac), that I may
eat it and Bless YOU (Esau) in The Presence of The LORD (GOD Almighty), before
My (Isaac’s) Death.’ Now therefore, My Son, obey My Voice according to what I
command YOU (Jacob). Go now to the flock
and bring me (Rebekah) from there two choice kids of the goats, and I (Rebekah)
will make savory food from them for Your Father, such as He (Isaac) Loves. Then YOU (Jacob) shall take it to Your Father (Isaac), that he
may eat it, and that he may Bless
YOU (Jacob), before His (Isaac’s) Death.”
Then Rebekah took The Choice Clothes of Her
(Rebekah’s) Elder Son, Esau, which were
with Her (Rebekah) in the house, and put them on Jacob, Her (Rebekah’s) Younger
Son. And She (Rebekah) put the skins of
the kids of the goats on His (Jacob’s) Hands and on the smooth part of His
(Jacob’s) Neck. Then She (Rebekah) gave
the savory food and the bread, which She (Rebekah) had prepared, into The Hand
of Her (Rebekah’s) Son, Jacob. So, He (Jacob) went to His Father
(Isaac) and said, “My Father.” And He (Isaac) said, “Here I am.
Who are YOU, My Son?” Jacob said to His Father, “I
am Esau, Your Firstborn; I have
done just as YOU told me; please arise, sit and eat of my game, that Your Soul
may Bless me.” But
Isaac said to His Son, “How is it
that YOU have found it so
quickly, My Son?” And He (Jacob) said, “Because The LORD, Your GOD (GOD Almighty)
brought it to me.”
Then His Father, Isaac said to Him (Jacob), “Come near
now and kiss me, My Son.” And He (Jacob)
came near and kissed Him (Isaac); and He (Isaac) smelled The Smell of His
(Jacob’s) Clothing, and Blessed Him (Jacob) and said: “Surely, The Smell of My
Son is like The Smell of a Field, which The LORD (GOD Almighty) has Blessed. Therefore, may GOD (GOD
Almighty) GIVE YOU (Jacob) of The Dew of Heaven,
of The Fatness of The Earth, and
plenty of grain and wine. Let Peoples SERVE YOU (Jacob), and Nations BOW
DOWN to YOU (Jacob). Be Master (Jacob) OVER Your Brethren, and
let Your Mother’s (Rebekah’s) Sons, BOW DOWN to YOU (Jacob). CURSED be EVERYONE who curses YOU (Jacob),
and Blessed be
those who BLESS YOU (Jacob)!”
And Esau
said, “Is He (Jacob) NOT rightly named Jacob?
For He (Jacob) has SUPPLANTED me (Esau) These Two Times. He (Jacob) TOOK AWAY My (Esau’s) Birthright,
and now look, He (Jacob) has TAKEN AWAY My (Esau’s) Blessing!” Then Isaac, His (Esau’s) Father, answered and
said to Him (Esau): “Behold, Your Dwelling shall be of The Fatness of The Earth, and of The Dew of Heaven from above. By Your Sword YOU (Esau)
shall LIVE, and YOU (Esau) shall SERVE Your Brother
(Jacob); and it shall come to pass, when YOU (Esau)
become RESTLESS, that YOU (Esau) shall BREAK His
(Jacob’s) Yoke from Your (Esau’s) Neck.”
So Esau HATED Jacob, because of The Blessing with which
His (Esau’s) Father (Isaac) Blessed Him (Jacob), and Esau said in His (Esau’s)
Heart, “The Days of Mourning for My Father (Isaac) are at hand; then I (Esau) will
KILL My Brother, Jacob.”
Then Isaac called Jacob and Blessed Him (Jacob), and CHARGED
Him (Jacob), and said to Him (Jacob): “YOU (Jacob) shall NOT take a Wife from
The Daughters of Canaan. Arise, go to
Padan Aram, to The House of Bethuel, Your Mother’s Father; and take yourself a
Wife from there of The Daughters of Laban, Your Mother’s Brother. “May GOD Almighty Bless YOU (Jacob), and MAKE YOU (Jacob) FRUITFUL and MULTIPLY
YOU (Jacob), that YOU (Jacob) may be an Assembly of Peoples;
and GIVE YOU (Jacob) The Blessing of Abraham, to YOU (Jacob) and Your (Jacob’s) Descendants with YOU (Jacob),
that YOU (Jacob) may INHERIT The Land in
which YOU (Jacob) are a Stranger, which GOD (GOD Almighty)
GAVE to Abraham.”
Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward
Haran. So He (Jacob) came to a certain
place and stayed there all night, because The Sun had set. And He (Jacob) TOOK One of The Stones of That
Place and put it at His (Jacob’s) Head, and He (Jacob) lay down in That Place
to sleep. Then He (Jacob) DREAMED, and
behold, a Ladder was SET UP on
The Earth, and Its (The Ladder) Top REACHED to Heaven; and there The Angels of
GOD (GOD Almighty) were Ascending and Descending on It (The Ladder). And behold, The LORD (GOD Almighty) STOOD Above It (The Ladder) and
said: “I AM The LORD, GOD (GOD
Almighty) of Abraham, Your Father and The GOD (GOD Almighty) of Isaac; The Land
on which YOU (Jacob) lie, I (GOD Almighty) will GIVE to YOU (Jacob) and Your
(Jacob’s) Descendants. Also Your
(Jacob’s) Descendants shall be as The Dust of The Earth; YOU (Jacob) shall SPREAD
ABROAD to The West and The East, to The North and The South; and in YOU (Jacob)
and in Your (Jacob’s) Seed, All The Families of The Earth shall be Blessed. Behold, I (GOD Almighty) AM with YOU (Jacob) and will KEEP YOU
(Jacob) wherever YOU (Jacob) go, and will BRING YOU (Jacob) BACK to This Land;
for I (GOD Almighty) will NOT leave YOU (Jacob) until I (GOD Almighty) have DONE,
what I (GOD Almighty) have SPOKEN to YOU (Jacob).” Then Jacob awoke from His
(Jacob’s) Sleep and said, “Surely, The LORD (GOD Almighty) is in This Place,
and I (Jacob) did NOT know it.” And He (Jacob) was afraid and said, “How AWESOME
is This Place! This is
none other than The House of GOD (GOD Almighty), and This is The Gate of Heaven!” Then Jacob rose early in the
morning, and TOOK The Stone, that He (Jacob) had Put at His (Jacob’s) Head, Set
it Up as a Pillar, and Poured Oil on top of it (The Stone). And He (Jacob) called The Name of That Place,
Bethel; but The Name of That City had been Luz, previously. Then Jacob Made a VOW, saying, “If GOD (GOD
Almighty) will be WITH me (Jacob), and KEEP me (Jacob) in This Way, that I (Jacob)
am going, and GIVE me (Jacob) bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I
(Jacob) come back to My (Isaac’s) Father’s House in PEACE, then The LORD (GOD
Almighty) shall be My (Jacob’s) GOD (GOD Almighty). And This Stone, which I (Jacob) have Set as a
Pillar, shall be GOD’s (GOD Almighty’s) House, and of All that YOU (GOD
Almighty) GIVE me (Jacob), I (Jacob) will surely GIVE a TENTH to YOU (GOD
Almighty).”
Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man WRESTLED with Him
(Jacob) until The Breaking of Day. Now,
when He (The Man) SAW that He (The Man) did NOT Prevail AGAINST Him (Jacob), He
(The Man) TOUCHED The Socket of His (Jacob’s) Hip; and The Socket of Jacob’s Hip
was out of joint, as He (Jacob) WRESTLED with Him (The Man). And He (The Man) said, “Let Me (The Man) go,
for The Day Breaks.” But He (Jacob) said, “I (Jacob)
will NOT let YOU (The Man) go, unless YOU (The Man) Bless me (Jacob)!” So, He (The Man) said to Him
(Jacob), “What is Your Name?” He (Jacob) said, “Jacob.” And He (The Man) said, “Your
(Jacob) Name shall NO Longer be called, Jacob, but Israel; for YOU (Jacob) have
STRUGGLED with GOD (GOD Almighty) and with Men, and have PREVAILED.” Then Jacob asked, saying,
“Tell me Your Name, I pray.” And He (The Man) said, “Why is it that YOU (Jacob) ask about My Name?” And He (The Man) Blessed Him (Jacob) there. So, Jacob called The Name of
The Place, Peniel: “For I (Jacob) have SEEN GOD (GOD Almighty) Face to Face,
and My (Jacob’s) Life is PRESERVED.” Just
as He (Jacob) CROSSED OVER Penuel (Peniel), The Sun rose on Him (Jacob), and He
(Jacob) Limped on His (Jacob’s) Hip. Therefore,
to This Day, The Children of Israel do NOT EAT, The Muscle that Shrank, which is on The Hip Socket, because He (GOD
Almighty) TOUCHED The Socket of Jacob’s Hip, in The Muscle that Shrank.
